Bioterrorism in Ikea? No just flour and runners...
0 Comments Published by Nick on Monday, August 27, 2007 at 2:03 AM.
"Two people who sprinkled flour in a parking lot to mark a trail for their offbeat running club inadvertently caused a bioterrorism scare and now face a felony charge.
The sprinkled powder forced hundreds to evacuate an IKEA furniture store Thursday.
The siblings set off the scare while organizing a run for a local chapter of the Hash House Harriers, a worldwide group that bills itself as a “drinking club with a running problem.”
“Hares” are given the task of marking a trail to direct runners, throwing in some dead ends and forks as challenges. On Thursday, the Salchows decided to route runners through the massive IKEA parking lot.
Police fielded a call just before 5 p.m. that someone was sprinkling powder on the ground. The store was evacuated and remained closed the rest of the night. The incident prompted a massive response from police in New Haven and surrounding towns."

Apple Iphone Hacked, Use It With Any Mobile Company
0 Comments Published by Nick on Saturday, August 25, 2007 at 7:53 AM.
"Hackers have found a way to use Apple Inc's iPhone on networks other than AT&T Inc's, opening up the coveted device to rival carriers and overseas customers, according to a Web report on Friday.
A group called iPhoneSIMfree.com said it had developed a piece of software that, when installed on an iPhone, allows the use of rival mobile services such as T-Mobile, according to widely followed technology blog Engadget.com.
AT&T has an exclusive two-year agreement to provide phone and data services for the iPhone in the United States. Apple is in talks with carriers in several European countries to launch the device there by the end of the year.
Enabling the combination phone, media player and Web browser to run on other networks -- known as "unlocking" -- has been a stated goal of many hackers since the iPhone hit the market in late June.
The hacker victory could also be fleeting since it may be possible for Apple to render the unlock process useless with an update to the iPhone software."

Choosing a Baby Name from Available Domain Names
0 Comments Published by Nick on Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at 4:22 AM.

Before the baby leaves the hospital parents check and make sure that the domain name is available and they immediately purchase it to ensure the baby will have their own Internet identity in the future.
A small but growing number of parents are getting domain names for their young kids, long before they can do more than peck aimlessly at a keyboard.

US pays 1 Million for 2 cent Washer Delivery
0 Comments Published by Nick on Sunday, August 19, 2007 at 11:37 AM.
A flaw in the US system let a small-parts supplier improperly collect $998,798.38 to ship two 19-cent washers. Loopholes in the automated purchasing system have been fixed and the ill-gotten gains were being returned to the U.S. The lock-washer incident was the last in a series of abuses by twin sisters running a South Carolina company that bilked the Pentagon out of about $20.5 million in fraudulent shipping costs.
If they pay 1 million for shipping, how much do they pay for pizza delivery?

Man Uses Duct Tape Disguise in Robbery
0 Comments Published by Nick on Saturday, August 18, 2007 at 3:32 AM.
USA Today:A man thought that his duct tape disguise would be enough to hide him in a robbery. Fortunately the liquor store he tried to rob had its own duct tapped bat. The clerk chased the suspect through the parking lot and finally caught up with him to give him a bashing of his own. Fortunately the clerk held the suspect into a choke hold until the police showed up. The duct tape robber denies he was the one.
But then why does he have a large gash on his mouth where he was clubbed...?

Monkey escapes Zoo, picks lock
0 Comments Published by Nick on Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at 2:03 AM.
A monkey named Oliver in Tupelo, Missisippi keeps escaping. This is the second time the monkey has gotten loose. The monkey simply picked the lock to escape.
Oliver and another capuchin named Baby were found wandering nearby. Workers easily captured Baby, but Oliver fled the park headed in the direction of the Tupelo Country Club.
Oliver led the zoo staff through a chase through the park's trail system before eventually eluding them. He was apprehended Aug. 6 at Tupelo Stone & Masonry after being spotted by a motorist.
Prevention? The Park bought new locks which should be monkey proof.

Leaning Tower of Pisa in Chicago
0 Comments Published by Nick on Sunday, August 12, 2007 at 11:02 AM.
Right in Niles, Illinious is a standing replica of the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy. Now tourists can save the trip over the ocean and just come to Niles. Visiting this tower was just one of the biggest tourist traps in the state. The Tower is in no way as impressive as the original. One thing I noticed is how small the Tower actually is. Overall the Tower must be at least half the size of the original. Currently they have made some upgrades to the small tower and have placed fountains there as well as some old Italian phone booth. If you are in the Chicago area, this tower is not too far away. It is located right around O’ Hare airport. Overall the Tower is not really worth the drive unless you happen to be going in that direction. The tower is similar but not similar enough to be mistaken for the real thing. One thing we found funny is to just stand in front of the tower but to vary the camera and our distance from the fake so that it looked almost like the real thing. Then when we came home at the end of the day I was able to surprise all my friends and tell them that I had been at the leaning tower of Niles.Photo by Ekaterry

A lawsuit has been filed claiming the unknown owner of the Catteneo avatar of violating copyright and trademark protections by copying, distributing and selling copies of of the SexGen software.
This has overall been a hard case. Finding someone who commited a crime in the online world is difficult when the incorrect information has been filled out, but using the online database might locate who creatd the Catteneo avatar who has infringed on SexGens program code.

The Most Hated Family in America
0 Comments Published by Nick on Thursday, August 9, 2007 at 5:01 AM.
The Phelps family pickets mourners across the country, to mark what it describes as God's revenge on the US for tolerating homosexuality.Their actions are in the name of the Westboro Baptist Church, which numbers 71 and is headed by "Gramps", preacher Fred Phelps. The church, which is based in Topeka, Kansas, mostly comprises his extended family.
Louis Theroux, himself no stranger to people with unconventional views, says the Phelpses are the most extreme people he has ever met. But in the following interview, he reveals how three weeks with them left him perplexed by their motivation.

Man smuggles monkey under his hat, nicknames it Spirit
0 Comments Published by Nick on Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at 5:06 AM.
A man smuggled a monkey right under his hat when he boarded a flight from Peru to Florida. The monkey got through customs, but in the airplane the monkey made a few peeks out and ended up sitting next to the man. Though the monkey behaved perfectly well, the CDC (Center for Disease Control) wasn't going to let the man bring a strange monkey into America. Upon arriving in Florida, authorities confiscated the monkey. The fate of the monkey? Most likely he'll end up in a zoo or worse, elected as president. If you liked this post please Help Feed Nick

Woman has pencil stuck in her head... finally gets it removed
0 Comments Published by Nick on Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at 1:40 PM.
This news didn't happen in America... but its so strange that I just had to write about it.A woman in Berlin had been living with a pencil lodged in her head the last 55 years. Basically the pencil went right into her head never to be seen again. With the new technology, scientists could finally remove the pencil stuck sitting in her head. I know Germans like to study, but this lady went a bit overboard. How does someone get a pencil lodged straight into their brain anyways?

In a move that might make some people scratch their heads, a loosely formed coalition of left-leaning bloggers are trying to band together to form a labor union they hope will help them receive health insurance, conduct collective bargaining or even set professional standards.
The effort is an extension of the blogosphere's growing power and presence, especially within the political realm, and for many, evokes memories of the early labor organization of freelance writers in the early 1980s.Labels: News
